Violence broke out on Thursday morning in the shady Olomore Market, Abeokuta, while dozens of Hausa traders protested against the death of one of them during alleged shootings by Operators of the Special Anti – Robbery Squad (SARS).
The angry Hausa traders selling onions, peppers, tomatoes, yams, and fruit are said to have struck violent, crushing objects, including the operational vehicle of the Ogun State television broadcaster and many other properties in sight.
The SARS agents were said to have chased a number of suspected criminals to the Olomore market and shot them when they came running in the middle of the traders and touched the angry reactions.
The traders on the Olomore market were soon accompanied by those from the nearby Lafenwa market, who mastered the shooting and took the Lafenwa – Abeokuta – Lagos highway, which disrupted the flow of traffic.
They marched to Olomore with bonfires mounted at different locations on the always busy road.
Many fled in different directions in search of where they could hide from damage.
Business activities ended abruptly.
The Public Relations Officer in Ogun State, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said on contact that he would respond quickly to the incident.
