Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide (OYC) has responded to the recent ruling of Nigerian Army Recruitment exercise by Brig Gen Emmanuel Akpan, Director of Army Recruitment Resettlement and Reserves of Nigerian Army, “that army is willing to recruit Nigerian youth for the only purpose of defeating Boko Haram rebels in the northeast “.
OYC described the news in a statement signed by its president-general, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, as a welcome development and added that such recruitment should only be reserved for Northern youth, as Igbo youths do not feel comfortable with such recruitment .
According to the group, there are suspicions and questions about the reason behind such a statement for such an irritating recruitment in the southeast, rather in the north or southwest.
“Such recruitment is a death sentence and a punishment for any prospective youth waiting to be recruited only for Northeast insurgents,” part of the statement states.
“OYC insists that Operations Shege Ka Fassa, Civil JTF, repentance of Boko Haram insurgents, Meyatti Allah and Arewa Youths should be enlisted en masse and if the intention was aimed at Igbo youth, choosing Southeast as the location to announce recruitment exercise, such as the agenda is Dead on Arrival, because Igbo Youths are only available for agricultural and economic recruitment.
“OYC wants Igbo Youths to be involved in Community Policing or Regional arrangements, there are different recruitment exercises going on in different states in the southeast to involve Youths in tackling insecurity problems in the southeast.
“OYC will unknowingly discourage every Igbo Youth from being under pressure to sacrifice his or her life for the North East, Southeast lacks the manpower for the recruitment exercise in the Nigerian army, due to other meaningful and important programs that Young People about to be busy with the southeast.
“Igbo Youths will never be used as a sacrificial lamb for the Northeast uprising, as Nigeria descends into regional security directions, each Geopolitical Zone should face their challenges without resorting to the use of untrained Igbo Youths as a sacrificial lamb.
“OYC calls on the leadership of Miyetti Allah, threatening to establish their own safety equipment throughout the country, to use the opportunity of the Nigerian army recruitment exercise to move all their shepherds to the northeast and defeat Boko Haram with the Nigerian army, their charity should start at Home not abroad.
“OYC will dismantle every Miyetti Allah Security Outfit in Igbo country, since the Southeastern governor ban on foot transport is still effective and all shepherds seen with a refined weapon will be treated … Ndigbo Agwo nno na ‘akirika.
