No fewer than three people died in the Ladega and Laketu areas of Ikorodu, Lagos State during a clash between suspected members of the Aiye and Eiye brotherhoods.

The collision allegedly began when suspicious members of the Aiye cult attacked Ladega around 10 am on Sunday and reportedly shot two rival members.

In a retaliation that followed, suspicious members of the Eiye cult reportedly mobilized a 17-year-old member in Laketu.

The deputy commander of the Onyabo Vigilante Group, Olanrewaju Olabinjo, who confirmed the murders, said that two Eiye members and one Aiye member were killed.

He said: “The clash was between the Eiye and Aiye cult members. Two people were killed in Ladega around 10 am and later in the day, one person was killed in Laketu, Ikorodu. All attacks occurred on Sunday. The family members of a of the victims have found his corpse. We are on our way to arrest those who committed the crime. “

However, the Lagos State Police Command said it had arrested 17 suspect cultists during supremacy battles in the areas of Ijora-Badia and Ikorodu, and added that one person was killed.

The Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said in a statement on Sunday five suspect cultists – Abiodun Olaniyi, 21; Kamal Emola, 20; Gbadeyinka Muritala, 18; Kadiri Bashorun, 28; and Adebayo Ebiesuwa, 25 – were arrested in Ijora Badia.

He added that 12 suspects, including Ibrahim Ajayi, Abdullah Isiaka, Yusuf Balogun and nine others, were arrested in connection with the killings in Ikorodu.

He said: “On Friday, February 21, 2020, around 1:20 PM, the police station of Ijora Badia received an emergency call that two rival cults, armed with glasses and other weapons, engaged in a battle for supremacy in Iso-Isu area in Ijora Badia and injured each other to varying degrees.

“Policemen from the Ijora Badia division and the Special Strike Force on Social Miscreants from the command headquarters, Ikeja, were mobilized to the area. Five suspects were arrested; they are members of the Aiye and Eiye brotherhoods.

“In Ikorodu, on Sunday, February 23, 2020, around 11:00 am, the police station of Ikorodu received information that members of the brotherhoods Aiye and Eiye were attacking each other in the Ladega area of ​​Ikorodu and one Lateef Akinpelu, aka Eti, 24, was seriously injured . Police officers from the Ikorodu Division, Area N, Shagamu Road, Ipakodo, RRS and SARS were mobilized on site.

“The wounded was rushed to Ikorodu General Hospital where he died. Twelve suspects were arrested. A locally made gun was recovered. Research is ongoing. All suspects are brought to justice. “
