Akeredolu’s victory shows people believe in APC, says Sanwo-Olu

Lagos State Governor Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu commented on the re-election of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, saying it is a testimony to people’s belief in the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the country .

Sanwo-Olu said this during a conversation with journalists at the presidential wing of Murtala Muhammed Airport, on arrival in Lagos from Ondo state, where he had led his party, APC, to win the governmental election as the party’s campaign chairman.

Sanwo-Olu was chairman of the APC Campaign Council, formed by the party’s national leaders, to lead the second-term campaign of the Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN).

APC won the governor’s contest with 292,830 votes, beating its biggest rival – Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which got 195,780 votes.

He said the success of his assignment in Ondo State was a promise fulfilled to his political party.

According to him, the APC candidate deserved victory in the election after delivering on most of his first-term campaign promises.

“I am personally excited, as Chairman of the APC Campaign Council in the Ondo State election, that the candidate who emerged victorious is our candidate.

“After visiting the state prior to the election, I can confirm that Arakunrin Akeredolu has really worked and that he is currently working for the people to deserve this victory.

People call Akeredolu a talking governor, which means that what he promises, he delivers, be it infrastructure or general development in Ondo State.

“Based on his track record of administration, our candidate was an easier product to sell in the election.

So we had a good fight during the exercise. At the end of the day, the Ondo people spoke through the vote and they spoke well, ”he said.

Sanwo-Olu said the election outcome reflected the will of the Ondo people, who were the only winner to emerge from the election.

He said APC entered the contest with the intention of uniting and not dividing the people of the state, as the party saw the outcome as “no victor, no conquered.”

The governor praised President Muhammadu Buhari for providing the necessary leadership and creating an environment in which the people can choose their leaders without violence.

He said that despite some skirmishes that tarnished the trial, the exercise was largely free, fair and credible.

Sanwo-Olu also praised APC’s national leadership and governors who supported the bid to return Akeredolu for the second term.

The victory in Ondo State is a demonstration that people still believe in our party’s leadership across the country.

“We accept the outcome of the election with humility. This victory is attributed not only to one person, but to all members of the APC campaign team, of which I was chosen as the leader, ”he said.
